Sounds like a great plan and a great way to use four hours!
I would really like us to give kids ways of doing something about bullying instead of just focusing on not bullying. We try to do that here at school. They should learn that just standing around participating (whether in person or online) is basically approving of the bullying. I think the web site I put on the wiki had some suggestions that might be usable.
Both Kathryn and Amy had great ideas for cyberbullying/bullying. Is that what we want to choose as our subject?
As far as divying up jobs go, the rubric listed: director, camera operator, talent, script writer(s), and editor(s). Since we aren't physically together, the director and camera operator should probably be the same person. We could then have a script writer, talent (person who does the narraration) and editor. I am taking my dad to his foot surgery tomorrow and will have about 4 hours of waiting around time where I can work on the script.
The Wiki will be a great way of posting what we do so that we can easily compile the PSA. I think we will be able to post the video clips, script and voice over narraration and then the editor can download each piece from the Wiki and also post the final video. For the rest of this week, I think all we have to do is decide on a final topic and decide which job we'll each have.
I put in my request to join Wiki and will post ideas again online. One of my wonderings and internship projects is how to offer good choices to students for Internet use at home (instead of lecturing them on the things they shouldn't do online). Anyway- I will post it later today when I get access (althugh I am in tranings this afternoon so it may be this evening). My focus in on younger kids but I am willing to do any psa.
Great start on the wiki, Matt, and good idea! And you have really put some thought into that. I submitted my request to join, but I got home from volleyball games late tonight.
Brittany, your ideas are good ones, as well. I am really into the reading thing... I have taught reading for 11 years, and I now work with Pre-K, where one of my passions is helping parents to read and communicate with their children.
Some other ideas that I have been thinking of are: adhering to copyright laws, using technology in the classroom - a multimedia project about using multimedia - haha, encouraging students to go to to go college, parent involvement (much like Brittany's), student-led prayer in school/at football games - I know that's going out on a limb...
And I looked at some samples online that included nutrition (also on the line of Brittany's idea), speaking out against drunk driving, preventing dropout or bullying. From that I thought of the internet bullying that I have become aware of since I began this program of study. Hmmm...
Anyway, I haven't put as much thought into any of these as Matt has done, but I just wanted to run a few thoughts by you all.
Do any of you have jobs in mind? I am willing to help in any way I can. I wil be glad to research or write, or whatever...
I put in my suggestion for our project, but I also like what Kathryn was thinking below. We could expand upon this in the discussion portion of the wiki so we don't have to keep emailing around.
I have been looking at the assignment for next week. Does anyone have a PSA idea yet? I have been thinking of some of the "wonderings" I thought of for our research class. Does that trigger any thoughts for you guys? I am also considering things that affect our community. I am from a town of 5,000, so that might not apply to everyone. Anyway, I look forward to sharing and developing a plan on the wiki. Talk to you soon.
I haven't read any of the week 3 stuff yet, but I think we could use one of our Wikis to brainstorm a topic and also figure out who's going to do what.
Unless someone already has done so, I'll set up a page on my Wiki tomorrow for this kind of stuff, and I'll take a look at the next three assignments and see if anything there needs to go into the wiki as well for everyone to review.
Have a great Labor Day everyone...talk to you all later!
Sounds like we have a group. I am still working on week 2 assignments so I haven't even read ahead to week 3-5. Plan on reading it as soon as I get this week posted. Have a great long weekend.
Matt and Amy- Kathy contacted me and is going to be the fourth member of the group. The week 3 video says that we need four members exactly, so our group is now complete.
The first thing we need to do is pick a topic for our PSA. I do not care what it is, so if anyone has a topic in mind just send it to everyone and we can decide. I just briefly looked over the assignment and am not sure how we can divide things up, so if anyone has ideas on that, please send those too.

Subject: Group for week 3-5 Lamar Assignments?
Brittany,
Matt and I teamed up with assignment 1 and both need a group I think.
I guess there are three of us. Now we need to find one or two more, is that correct?
Brittany said she has a camera. I must admit I haven't read up on what the PSA involved.
Do you know the different jobs that are needed?
Looking forward to working with both of you.

Hi Amy and Matt,
I have not read through everything for weeks 3-5 yet, but I know Dr. Abernathy said that we need 3-5 group members and that at least one of us will need a video camera. It's good to know that we have the group together!
I'll read through and see what the different jobs are and we can divide up things later this week.

Hey, Everyone,
I have been looking at the assignment for next week.

Brittany,
Matt and I teamed up with assignment 1 and both need a group I think.
I guess there are three of us. Now we need to find one or two more, is that correct?
Brittany said she has a camera. I must admit I haven't read up on what the PSA involved.
Do you know the different jobs that are needed?
Looking forward to working with both of you.

Thanks again Matt for setting it up.
